Instructions
- Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain and toss with cornstarch in a bowl until evenly coated.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Sear the beef in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, and hoisin sauce (if using). Bring to a simmer for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Return seared beef to the skillet; toss to coat in the sauce and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
- Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles, garnished with chopped green onions and red pepper flakes if desired.
